The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Champions League title is the highest honor for football clubs in Europe. The inaugural Champions League title, then known as the European Cup, was won by Spanish club Real Madrid in 1955. Real Madrid successfully defended its title four times until Benfica won in 1960. It won twice more before the European Cup was replaced with the Champions League in 1992.

Real Madrid has continued its dominance of European football since the start of the Champions League. It has won seven times, including in five of nine years from 2014 to 2022, since 1992. Italian club AC Milan ranks second all-time with seven titles. Liverpool FC and FC Bayern Munich each have six titles.

Real Madrid defeated Liverpool 1-0 in last year's final at Stade de France in Paris to win the 2022 UEFA Champions League title. Vinicius Junior scored the lone goal of the match, while Thibaut Courtois had a clean sheet for the La Liga club.
